'Staples is a Great School to Segue to Ivy League'

Wreckers girls' lacrosse players who are privileged with the ability to play their sport in college explain what they look forward to and how Staples put it in reach.

Five members of the Wreckers girls’ lacrosse team signed letters of intent and shared their excitement about being able to play a sport they love at the next level during a press conference held at Tuesday afternoon.

Remy Nolan, who will play for the Boston University Terriers in college, said she couldn’t ask for anything more than have a coaching staff as excellent as BU’s.

Adele Mackey will be attending Skidmore College in upstate New York and is thrilled to be able to play lacrosse for another four years.

“I can’t imagine going away to college and not having the ability to play a team sport,” Mackey said.

Maeve Flaherty will attend Brown University in the fall and she feels her high school education put Ivy League status within her reach.

“Staples is a great school to segue to Ivy League because it prepares us really well, both athletically and academically,” Flaherty said.  

Jessie Ambrose is off to Columbia University next year and said she is excited to be involved with a division one program where all athletes put maximum effort into the sport they play.

Ali Crofts, a future UCONN Husky, looks forward to competing at the next level, especially because the University of Connecticut is a part of the Big East Conference.

“I think I’ll meet some of the best lacrosse players in the country,” she said.

Croft congratulated her teammates for continuing to the sport they all love in college.

Coach Cathy Schager, who is also a social studies teacher at Staples High School, was very excited to celebrate her players’ announcement and was also particularly happy for their parents.

“We’re sending great people off to the best places,” she said.
