Staples Student Wins National, International Literary Awards
She was the only high school student from Connecticut to be recognized at the national level.
Westport, CT-Greta Gilbert, a junior at Staples High School, has been awarded the Merit Award In the National PTA Reflections Awards competition. Greta Gilbert was the only High School student from the state of Connecticut to be recognized at the National Level. Gilbert won the award for her work in the High School Literary Category, for her poem “Hero”. Her Poem will debut at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC in the student exhibit and will be part of the traveling exhibit concluding in Columbus, Ohio for the National PTA convention and expo.
Previous to winning the National Honor, Greta Gilbert won Staples PTA Reflection contest in the literary category, advancing her work to the CT PTA State Reflections competition. Gilbert then won the Grand Prize for her literary work, High School division. Moving her work to the National Competition to win the Merit Award for her Literary work. The PTA Reflections award is one of the largest competitions for the Arts both Statewide and Nationally, also making it one of the largest literary competitions in the country.
Greta Gilbert was also recently awarded Top Ten 2019 Young Authors Writing Competition in the Fiction category with her work ”Smile”. The prestigious Columbia College Chicago’s 2019 Young Authors Competition is an International Writing Competition receiving thousands of entrants from around the world, earning the distinction of one of the most challenging literary
contests. In addition to her writing interests, Gilbert is a Varsity Rower with Saugatuck Rowing Club, and enjoys her work with Joshua’s Heart.
