Staples Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Fourteen Staples High School students have qualified as semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

WESTPORT, CT — Staples High School announced Wednesday that 14 members of the Class of 2019 have qualified as National Merit Scholarship Corporation semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
According to a news release, the Staples semifinalists are:
- Genevieve Domenico
- Angela Ji
- Zachary Katz
- Preston Lust
- Emma McKinney
- Martin Menz
- Andrew Moy
- Isabel Powell
- Anisa Prasad
- Sirina Prasad
- Orly Salik
- Carter Teplica
- Benjamin Tobben
- Joshua Zhang
Nationwide, approximately 16,000 semifinalists — fewer than 1 percent of the over 1.6 million students who took the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT qualifying exam — will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.

"It is a great honor for these students to have met the high bar of achievement set forth by College Board for recognition as semi-finalists," Staples High School Principal James D'Amico said in a release. "This group of students are notable not only because of their academic abilities compared to their peers at Staples and in Connecticut, but also because they are all contributing citizens to our school community."
