Stranger 'Elopes' with Gifts from Westport Wedding Reception

An unknown man made off with a decorative bird cage with wedding cards for the happy couple at a Saturday reception.

A man seems to have pretended to be a wedding guest at a reception that took place Saturday at the Inn at Long Shore before taking a decorative bird cage that contained wedding cards for the newlyweds, according to a report on WFSB-TV.

The station, which cited Westport police for its information, gave this account of the caper:

The man, described as a young man and clean shaven, with light brown hair and dressed in gray pants and a white or gray shirt, was seen on surveillance video lingering in the lobby and speaking into a cell phone. The suspect is believed to be between 25 and 35 years old.
