Suspect Accused Of $8,000 Scam With Stolen Westport Check: Police
Westport police said the suspect altered a $40 check to more than $8,000.

WESTPORT, CT — A 39-year-old Lynn, Massachusetts, man was arrested by Westport police this week in connection with a stolen $40 check that was changed to $8,000 before it was cashed.
Francisco Jamie De La Rosa was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree identity theft and third-degree larceny, according to Westport police.
The incident occurred in August when a Westport resident reported a check had been stolen from the mailbox at his home.

"The amount was changed to over $8,000.00 and the name of the payee was altered to Francisco Conrado Jamie," police said. "The complainant said he did not know anyone by that name. It was determined that the check was cashed at a Bank of America branch."
Westport detectives obtained a search warrant to find out the name of the account holder, who turned out to be De La Rosa.

He surrendered to Westport police on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
