Suspect Accused Of Thefts Totaling $2,600 From 2 Westport Stores: PD

The thefts occurred within minutes of each other this past September, according to Westport police.

WESTPORT, CT — A 19-year-old New Haven man was arrested on a warrant by Westport police last week in connection with a pair of thefts from Westport stores last September that totaled more than $2,600, according to authorities.

The suspect was charged with fourth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor, by Westport police, after he was picked up Seymour police on Jan. 6 on unrelated charges.

According to Westport police, the thefts occurred within minutes of each other on Sept. 28 at the Walgreens and Stop and Shop, both on the Post Road East.

The suspect is accused of stealing more than $1,250 worth of self-care items from the Walgreens, and more than $1,350 worth of cleaning products from the Stop and Shop.

"Surveillance footage from both businesses confirmed the same suspect and suspect vehicle were involved in the alleged thefts," Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods wrote in a statement.

Images of the suspect were shared to area law enforcement agencies, which led to the New Haven man being identified.

The suspect was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Tuesday.
