Suspect Assaulted Police Officer During Arrest: Westport PD

The man was a suspect in a larceny at Ulta Beauty, police said.

WESTPORT, CT — A Brooklyn man was charged with assaulting a police officer during an arrest Dec. 14, according to police.

Officers went to Ulta Beauty on a report of a larceny in progress. The store has been a target for thieves over the past year, police said.

A manager told police one suspect was in the process of making a legitimate purchase while two others were stealing merchandise. Two suspects fled on foot and the other fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

Officers spotted the two suspects on foot, but they fled. One of the men, Jefferey Charlot, 30, was apprehended, police said. Charlot didn't comply with officers and assaulted one officer while being taken into custody, according to police.

Charlot was charged with assaulting a police officer, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and interfering with police. Bail was set at $5,000. Detectives are working to identify the other two suspects.
