Suspect Issued $80,000 in Bad Checks to Westport Jewelry Store: Cops

The bad checks were issued from August 2014 to October 2015, according to police.

Westport, CT - A Stamford man has been arrested and charged with seven counts of issuing bad checks - totalling more than $80,000 - to the Westport jewelry store Lux Bond and Green, according to police.

Hakan Basaran, 44, turned himself into Westport police on July 13 on an active warrant.

Details of the incidents surrounding the charges were not disclosed, but police said Basaran allegedly issued six bad checks to the store between August 2014 and October 2015.

"[Westport Police] Detective George Taylor conducted a lengthy investigation into Basaran, culminating in the warrant which was served," police wrote in a statement.

Basaran was released after posting a $25,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on July 25.
