Total Temporary Shutdown of Merritt Parkway in Westport Looms: ConnDOT
Crews expected to close the thruway for a short period of time late Sunday night.

WESTPORT, CT — Construction on the Newtown Turnpike bridge over the Merritt Parkway in Westport late Sunday night, Feb. 5, will result in its temporary shutdown for about 20 minutes, according to the state Department of Transportation.
"The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of a utility upgrade project on the Newtown Turnpike bridge over the Merritt Parkway in Westport," wrote officials in a statement. "The Utility Contractor plans to have a possible nighttime closure of the Northbound and Southbound lanes near Exit 41 for a duration of 20 minutes on or about February 5, 2017, weather permitting."
The northbound and southbound lanes are expected to be closed for about 20 minutes near exit 41 in Westport sometime between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., officials said.

The project will allow "Eversource Electric and Frontier Communications [to upgrade] their systems to accommodate the future bridge safety upgrades."
