Toxicology Report Leads To Arrest Of Driver In Westport Crash: Police
Police obtained a search warrant to obtain the results of the suspect's toxicology report following a two-vehicle crash in July.
WESTPORT, CT — A 60-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a warrant by Westport police over the weekend after a toxicology report determined the suspect was under the influence of narcotics at the time of a two-vehicle crash in July.
Daniel Lopez surrendered to police on Sunday and was charged with:
- Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License
- Following Too Closely
The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on July 12 at the intersection of Kings Highway North and Edge Hill Lane, according to police.

"It was determined that a vehicle being operated by Daniel Lopez struck another car," Westport police wrote in a statement. "Officers noticed that Mr. Lopez was acting erratically, and there was reportedly drug paraphernalia inside his car. He was ultimately transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
"Given that it was suspected that Mr. Lopez was operating his car under the influence of
narcotics, a search warrant to obtain the results of his toxicology report was obtained. The report
purportedly showed that he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the accident."

Lopez was released after posting bond on bail of $7,500, and is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 29.
