Traffic Delays Expected On Merritt Parkway In Westport, Fairfield

Road improvement construction is expected to last for years.

WESTPORT, CT — Road construction on the Merritt Parkway between Westport and Fairfield has begun and is expected to last until August 2019, according to the state Department of Transportation.

"The project consists of the pavement rehabilitation of 5 miles (each direction) of Route 15 and 11 structures (over and underpasses) in the towns of Fairfield and Westport," wrote officials in a statement. "Upgrades to pavement, guiderail, drainage and historic concrete are included."

Work will largely be done at night, and closures will be between the hours of 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., depending on the night of the week and which side of the parkway.

"Allowable Northbound lane closures are 8 PM to 6 AM, Saturday to Wednesday, and 9PM to 8AM, Thursday and Friday," wrote officials. "Allowable southbound lane closures are from 7PM to 6AM, Monday-Thursday, and 8PM Friday to 8AM Saturday, and 8PM Saturday to 8AM Sunday."

The $56.7 million project is being handled by Manafort Brothers, Inc.
