Traffic Detours For Westport Bridge Replacement Project Announced

The contractor will be using local roads to access the site, resulting in traffic detours and possible delays near the project.

WESTPORT, CT — Traffic detours will be in place next week as the town works to install beams for the Cavalry Road Bridge Replacement Project.

In a news release, Town Engineer Keith Wilberg said the installation will take place on Cavalry Road, between Crooked Mile Road and Rebel Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day beginning Wednesday.

Work will take place through Friday, March 4, however Wilberg noted all dates and times are approximate and subject to weather conditions.

The contractor will be using local roads to access the site to deliver the oversized crane and bridge beams via tractor trailer, resulting in additional traffic detours and possible delays near the project, Wilberg said.

The detour area includes Cavalry Road, Crooked Mile Road, Red Coat Road, Hermit Lane and all roads and driveways that use these roads. Residents of that area have been notified of the detour, Wilberg said.

Wilberg also noted Westport police will be on site and detour signs will be installed throughout the detour route. Travelers are advised to drive with additional caution, allow extra travel time and obey all detour and safety signals.

Upon completion of the beams installation, the current detour pattern around the site will be put back into effect, Wilberg said.
