Trio of Suspects Arrested in Westport, Fraudulent Checks: Police

The three suspects, all from New York, were seen acting suspiciously on the Post Road East near Bulkley Avenue, according to police.

WESTPORT, CT — Three New York men were arrested on forgery and larceny charges Wednesday after Westport police found them with more than $74,000 worth of stolen and fraudulent checks.

The incident unfolded on the Post Road East near Bulkley Avenue when police, who were in the area on an unrelated matter, noticed the three in a car acting suspiciously.

"The detective watched the vehicle and its occupants from a distance and observed the passengers exit the vehicle and walk one direction while the vehicle began to drive away in another direction," police wrote in a statement.

The three were eventually stopped, and "all three parties had different stories as to their purpose in Westport that we could not corroborate."

Police soon found 14 stolen and fraudulent checks in their possession and took them into custody.

Arrested on charges of third-degree Forgery (14 counts); Conspiracy to Commit Larceny first degree; and first-degree Identity Theft were:

Alphonso D. Stewart, 31, of Brooklyn, NY

Rashon Perkins, 27, of Bronx, NY

All three were held in lieu of $50,000 bonds each and are scheduled to appear in court this month.
