Trish’s of Seymour to host local Author & Artist Amy Oestreicher
Trish's, an artisan boutique, will host a book signing and art discussion with inspiring author, artist and TEDx Speaker Amy Oestreicher

Amy Oestreicher says calls her discovery of art a “flower” on her “beautiful detour.” After picking up a paintbrush in the Yale ICU after her thirteenth surgery, she “discovered a means of expressing what was too overwhelming for words.” Today, Oestreicher is celebrating the many flowers on her detour as an artist, actress, playwright, three-time TEDx Speaker, and now author of her memoir, My Beautiful Detour: An Unthinkable Journey from Gutless to Grateful. Amy will be signing her book, discussing her journey of resilience and showing her art on Saturday February 8th from 1pm - 4pm at Trish’s, on 16 Bank St. Ste 14. behind Tea with Tracy on Columbus Street in Seymour, Connecticut. Trish’s is an artisan shop located in downtown Seymour which carries handcrafted creations from local talented artisans. She also carries local food and books written by some local authors.
"I'm excited to share my story: how I navigated a seemingly impossible situation to find the real gifts that anyone can discover from facing obstacles of their own. I wrote My Beautiful Detour to convey my unwavering love of life and to set a template for any fellow Detourists – because does anyone's life go exactly as they plan? I was able to discover how to build resilience in any situation, and I felt it was important to share how exactly I did that. I'm honored to be able to do so at Trish’s," said Amy Oestreicher.
Amy's story starts senior year in high school, chronicles her betrayal from a longtime teacher that corresponded with her medical emergency, and takes the reader to present-day. The memoir illustrates how Amy used creativity to help transform adversity into personal growth, and invites others to do the same. Her miraculous comeback stems from more than a decade of intense resilience-building. And she knows what she writes: Amy has survived organ failure and powered through the PTSD that comes from both emotional and physical trauma. In addition to her moving memoir, Amy is a regular lifestyle, wellness, and arts contributor for over 70 online and print publications. In addition, her story has been featured on NBC's Today, CBS, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen Magazine, Washington Post, Good Housekeeping, and MSNBC, among others. As an artist, her mixed media and acrylic paintings have been shown in solo art shows and juried exhibitions throughout the Northeast, as well as in the New York premiere of her multimedia musical Passageways, this summer. She has recently launched a line of apparel, home décor, stationary and yoga mats and tech accessories inspired by her art on RedBubble and Society6, and will be releasing a book of her artwork in 2021.
