WESTPORT, CT — A 48-year-old Westport man was arrested on multiple charges last week, after Westport police said he screamed at staff during an argument in the lobby of Staples High School involving a "custody issue."

The man was charged with second-degree criminal trespass, interfering/resisting an officer and second-degree breach of peace.

According to police, the incident began when the School Resource Officer was alerted that an "irate parent" was in the lobby "screaming at school staff."

The officer saw the suspect "becoming increasingly agitated to the point that one of the school staff had to put their hand up in a defensive move" to prevent him from getting any closer.

As the SRO tried to de-escalate the situation and move everyone outside, the suspect "continued to act aggressively and refused to obey lawful orders."

Police said the suspect was "upset with school personnel and their handling of a custody issue," and despite being told several times to leave the school, he refused and said he would "continue to return until the issue is resolved."

At that point, he was taken into custody and charged, according to police.

He was released after posting a $1,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Friday.
