Medical Examiner: Priest's Death Ruled Suicide After Being Struck by a Train

Update: The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Fr. Colin McKenna’s death a suicide, according to the Hartford Courant.

Metro North officials have identified the victim struck and killed by a train in Westport Wednesday as Fr. Colin McKenna, 50. Multiple reports list McKenna’s residence in Wilton and Westport.

He has served as a writer and editor for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport for the past two years.

“This is a great tragedy for our diocese, which Fr. Colin faithfully served throughout his priesthood,” said Bishop Caggiano in a statement. “I would ask people to please pray for the repose of Fr. Colin’s soul and the consolation of his family.”

McKenna also helped celebrate Mass on weekends in many area parishes. Previously he was the parochial vicar of St. Joseph Parish in Shelton and served the Sacred Heart Parish in Georgetown, St. Roch Parish in Greenwich, St. Mary Parish in Greenwich, and in other parishes throughout the Diocese.

He was ordained in 1999 and is a Westport native.
