Want To Charge Your EV In Westport? Next Year, It'll Cost You: Report

The town will begin requiring drivers of electric vehicles to pay at public charging stations.

WESTPORT, CT — Beginning next year, Westport will begin requiring drivers of electric vehicles to pay for powering up at public charging stations in town, reported the Connecticut Post.

The number of electric vehicles in Westport has increased dramatically over the past few years, with nearly 1,500 of such vehicles register in town as of this summer, according to the publication.

Westport will charge 35 cents per kilowatt-hour, and charging will be limited to three hours. Fully charging a vehicle could cost about $40 under the plan.

The plan was approved by the Board of Selectwomen last week. While the exact date of the rollout has not yet been determined, it is expected to occur in the early part of 2024.
