Watch ESPN Hosts Help Westport School Make Snow Day Decision

This Westport school enlisted the help of ESPN officials and athletes to help them make their snow day decision.

WESTPORT, CT — While many students across the state were treated to news of a snow day Tuesday, one Connecticut school enlisted the help of ESPN officials and athletes to help them make their decision.

In light of Tuesday's forecast, Greens Farms Academy in Westport posted a video to their website in which Head of School Bob Whelan provided students with an "exclusive behind-the-scenes look" at what went in to the school's snow day decision. In the video, Whelan examines the forecast and deliberates whether to declare a snow day or not. (To sign up for Westport breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Torn by the decision, Whelan takes a train to ESPN headquarters to seek advice. He is greeted there by Mike Greenberg, host of the network's sports talk morning television program "Get Up!," who informs Whelan there are a few people at ESPN who can help him make the right decision.

"Well kids love a snow day," Greenberg said in the video. "It is a tough decision. I may have some people here who can help us."

Whelan then sits down with former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth, who scoffs at the idea of a snow day.

"Go to school, it builds character," Foxworth said in the video. "They can trudge through the snow like we used to do. It'll make them stronger."

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears had a different take on the situation.

"I'm from South Baton Rouge, Louisiana," Spears said in the video. "I used to pray for a rainy day. The fact that you want them to come to school when it snows is beyond me. Give the kids a snow day."

With Whelan still conflicted, Greenberg brings in ESPN host Jalen Rose, who sides with Spears and encourages Whelan to give his students a snow day.

"They work really hard," Rose said in the video. "Give them snow days during the winter. They have a lot of homework, a lot of responsibilities. They deserve it."

Whelan of course did give in and Greens Farms students were able to enjoy a snow day along with Westport public school students and most of the state.
