Westport Not Added to Aquarion List of Communities with Mandatory Watering Bans: Update

Residents in nearby communities have begun receiving automated phone message about the ban, but Westport is not included.

UPDATE: WESTPORT, CT — An earlier report that Westport was added to a list of Aquarion Water Company communities with mandatory outdoor watering bans was incorrect, and Patch regrets the error.

Customers in Greenwich, Stamford, New Canaan and Darien have received automated phone calls about the temporary ban, which is due to drought conditions throughout the state.

In a September 16 release, Aquarion President and CEO Charles V. Firlotte explained the reason for the temporary ban. Initially, hand watering was still permitted but even that is now prohibited, according to the automated messages.

“We are telling our customers to turn off their irrigation systems and sprinklers for the season. We are doing this to ensure that we have an adequate water supply for everyday use and fire protection,” he said.

An Aquarion spokesperson told Patch that Westport may be added to the list in the future, but as of today, Sept. 23, the town has not been added.
