Westport Affordable Housing Committee To Discuss Affordable Housing With P&Z Chair

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Affordable Housing Committee is scheduled to discuss the future of the town’s affordable housing planning efforts, including potential coordination with the Planning and Zoning Commission, during a special meeting on Tuesday, June 16.

The committee will meet in person at 3 p.m. in Room 309 at Westport Town Hall. The meeting was postponed from its original June 9 date.

One of the meeting’s primary discussion items is a planned conversation with the chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Paul Lebowitz, about affordable housing development in Westport. The discussion is expected to include possible collaboration between the Affordable Housing Committee and the commission’s Affordable Housing Subcommittee, as well as the future update of Westport’s Affordable Housing Plan.

Committee members are also scheduled to discuss recent changes in the number of affordable housing units in town and review issues related to Westport’s next affordable housing moratorium. Affordable housing unit counts can affect a municipality’s standing under Connecticut’s affordable housing statutes and related planning requirements.

In addition, the committee is expected to hear and discuss an update on the implementation of Connecticut’s Housing Act, known as H.B. 8002. The legislation includes a range of housing-related policy provisions affecting municipalities across the state.
