Westport American Stuns Fairfield National On Burns' Walk-Off Homer
Dramatic 7-6 win lifts Westport American into losers' bracket final against Monroe.
The Westport American Little League team stayed alive in the District Two tournament in stunning fashion Thursday.
Ian Burns hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting Westport American to a 7-6 victory over Fairfield National at Bridgeport's Blackham School.
Westport American advanced to the loser's bracket final on Friday and will face Monroe, a 10-0 loser to Fairfield American in Thursday's other semifinal. Friday's contest is set for 5:30 p.m. at Blackham School.

The winner of that game will play Fairfield American in the District II championship game for a berth in the Connecticut section one tournament that begins next week in Shelton.
Many observers anticipated a Fairfield vs. Fairfield district final. But after going 5-0 in round robin play and winning its pool, Fairfield National went 0-2 in the playoff round and was the first team eliminated.
