Westport Appoints New Assistant Superintendent Of Schools
After an extensive search, Westport public schools have announced the appointment of a new Assistant Superintendent Of Schools.

WESTPORT, CT — After an extensive search, the Westport Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Buono as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools, commencing July 1.
According to a news release, Buono is an exemplary educational leader who thrives on cultivating leadership skills in those he works with and empowering teachers to boldly contribute to the mission of the work. In his new role in Westport, he will oversee the PreK-12 academic program and serve as an integral part of the executive leadership team of the district.
His commitment to excellence and his dedication to every student’s success are hallmarks of his approach to his work.

Buono comes to Westport from the Branford Public Schools where he has served as the Assistant Superintendent since 2015, leading the comprehensive agenda of teaching and learning. Prior to his current role as Assistant Superintendent for the Branford Public Schools, he held other key leadership roles in Branford including Associate Superintendent for two years and Elementary Principal for nine years.
"Dr. Buono has served the Branford Public Schools with distinction for 14 years. His proven track record of leadership, curriculum development, instructional expertise, and professional development is known throughout the State. Anthony is a child advocate who has provided exemplary leadership to his colleagues and the District. We wish him the very best and thank him for his dedicated service to our District," Branford officials said in a news release.

His experiences in administration began with the Groton Public Schools, where he served as both an Assistant Principal and District Mathematics Coordinator. Buono also has vast teaching experiences with the Wallingford Public Schools across the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Along with his work in the K-12 setting, Buono serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Educational Leadership program at Southern Connecticut State University.
Buono earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Connecticut State University with a major in Mathematics, Science and Geography. He went on to study at Southern Connecticut State University, earning his Master of Science Degree.
From there Buono earned his Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University and completed the Executive Leadership/Superintendent program at the University of Connecticut. He was awarded Ph.D., Doctor of Philosophy, in Adult Learning Theory from Lesley University.
“We are thrilled to welcome such an outstanding and visionary educator to our team as we move forward to implement our strategic plan,” Superintendent Colleen Palmer said in a release.
