Westport Barn Nearly Destroyed by Fire

WESTPORT, CT — A barn on Main Street in Westport was heavily damaged by fire early Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported but the building held living quarters, a storage area and a multi-bay garage. The blaze was reported at 2:50 a.m.

"Upon arrival, fire companies laid a supply line to a nearby hydrant and applied heavy water in order to achieve quick knock down of the fire," wrote fire officials in a statement, adding that extensive flames were already visible as firefighters arrived. "Crews made entry and conducted search and salvage operations of the building."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and crews will remain on-site until that work is complete, according to officials.
