Westport Book Shop To Feature Works By Tammy Winser Throughout July

A reception for the local artist is also scheduled this month.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Book Shop will feature a collection of works by local artist Tammy Winser during July in the store's Drew Friedman Art Place gallery.

The exhibit, titled "So they say," includes acrylic and collage works centered on animals portrayed with human traits and expressions. Winser's artwork is inspired by phrases, photographs and moments she finds thought-provoking or humorous.

Winser works in a variety of media, including assemblage, photography and painting. Her assemblage pieces depict miniature scenes with people and animals, while her photography explores the passage of time.

She began her career in fashion as a print designer after graduating from Parsons School of Design. She later worked as a children's photographer and has created public art projects in the United States, Berlin and Australia. Winser currently accepts private commissions, exhibits in local galleries and is a co-founder of the Artists Collective of Westport.

The Westport Book Shop will host a public reception for Winser and the exhibit on July 16 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited, and attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 203-349-5141 or emailing RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org.

The exhibit will remain on display through July 31. All artwork is available for purchase.

The gallery is open during the Book Shop's regular business hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The nonprofit used bookstore is located at 23 Jesup Road in downtown Westport.

The Drew Friedman Art Place is a gallery space within the bookstore that features rotating monthly exhibits by community artists. The exhibits are curated by Miggs Burroughs, a trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center and a founding member of the Artists Collective of Westport.
