Westport Country Playhouse Presents 'Live from Laurel Canyon - Songs And Stories Of American Folk Rock'
The show features a seven-piece band celebrating music by The Mamas and the Papas, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell and more.
WESTPORT, CT — Westport Country Playhouse will present “Live from Laurel Canyon – Songs and Stories of American Folk Rock” at 7 p.m. on March 22, featuring live music and narrated stories about influential songwriters who lived and worked in California’s Laurel Canyon during the mid-1960s and 1970s.
Located in the hills above Los Angeles, Laurel Canyon became a gathering place for musicians whose work helped shape the folk-rock movement. The neighborhood developed a reputation similar to other music hubs of the era, including Haight-Ashbury and Greenwich Village, where artists collaborated and influenced the direction of American popular music.
The show highlights songs associated with artists including The Mamas & the Papas, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, America, and Eagles. Performers present their interpretations of songs from the period while sharing stories about the music and its origins.
