Westport Emergency Personnel Help Deliver Healthy Baby Girl

Mila Procaccini was delivered at home on Wednesday morning.

WESTPORT, CT - Members of the Westport Police Department, Emergency Medical Service and Fire Department all chipped in Wednesday morning to help deliver a healthy baby girl to local parents Kate and John Procaccini, according to officials.

Kate called 911 when she went into labor at about 8:45 a.m., and emergency personnel found her upstairs. Determining that the birth was imminent, they sprung into action.

"Thanks to the first responders, and an extremely brave mom, the baby was born only minutes later," fire officials said in a statement. "Mom and baby were taken to Norwalk Hospital and found to be in great health."

On Thursday, the first responders had a chance to reunite with baby Mila and her parents at the hospital, filling the hospital room and presenting the family with a gift.

was proud of all responding units, and how they worked together seamlessly. “This is a once in a career opportunity for our guys,” said Shift Commander, Lt. Eric Woods, in a statement. “I could not be happier for them, but even more excited for the family.”

Added John Procaccini, now a father of two, “I just wanted to thank you all for everything you did. This is the stuff that goes above and beyond typical duties. We are beyond grateful.”
