Later School Start Times Being Considered In Westport

A committee is looking closely at the pros and cons of possibly changing school start times in Westport.

WESTPORT, CT — A 21-member committee is looking closely at the pros and cons of possibly starting school later and letting students sleep more in the morning, as reported by Westport News. The committee is currently examining reasonable options, which would likely be 60-75 minutes later than current start times.

According to Westport News, some committee members argue sleep is critical to the way students learn, as well as memory and creativity. Many aspects on the concept are currently being examined before any final decision is made, including bus study results.

If the committee can agree on new times, they could be proposed to the Board of Education as soon as June for adoption at the beginning of the next school year, according to Westport News.
