Westport Fresh Market Employee Accused Of Stealing From Registers: PD

The suspect is accused of stealing more than $13,000 from the grocery store, according to authorities.

WESTPORT, CT — A 53-year-old Bridgeport man, who worked at Fresh Market on the Post Road East in Westport, is accused of stealing more than $13,000 from the grocery store over a several-month period, according to police.

Yember Hernandez turned himself in last week, and was arrested on a warrant charging him with second-degree larceny in connection with the case.

Westport police began investigating Hernandez in March.

"The investigation revealed that from October 2023, Mr. Hernandez allegedly stole money from the cash registers after initiating cash returns in the amount of $13,292.85," wrote Lt. Eric Woods in a statement.

Hernandez was released after posting bond on bail of $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 22.
