Westport Home Damaged By Saturday Storm: Fire Officials
A powerful storm Saturday evening caused damage in Westport as it swiftly moved through the area.
WESTPORT, CT — Saturday evening's fast-moving thunderstorm toppled a tree onto a Westport home and "created multiple storm related calls for the Westport Fire Department," according to Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.
The storm, which produced heavy rain, winds, and hail, lasted for less than an hour, but in that timespan the fire department responded to 18 service calls for service.
"These calls ranged from power lines burning, trees resting on power lines, carbon monoxide calls, and a large tree that had fallen on a house. There were no storm related injuries reported and at this time, there are areas with no power," Cohen stated late Saturday night, adding that Eversource was notified of all outages and downed power lines.
