Westport Man Charged With Pushing Person To Ground At Country Club

Police say Walter Francis pushed a country club employee while they were crouched down stacking menus on the evening on June 3rd.

WESTPORT, CT — A 58-year-old Westport man is facing multiple charges including assault after being accused of pushing a Birchwood Country Club employee to the ground and laughing about it, police said.

The man, Walter Francis, pushed the alleged victim while they were crouched down stacking menus on the evening on June 3rd, according to police.

"The complainant reported no injuries but felt threatened and scared by the individual who committed this act and was unknown to the complainant," police said.

With the help of police interviews and surveillance footage, Francis was identified as the suspect and warned not to contact the alleged victim. Despite this, on two different occasions, Francis and a family member attempted to contact the complainant, according to police.

A warrant was issued for his arrest Tuesday and Francis turned himself in to the Westport Police Department. He was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and tampering with a witness and released after posting his $75,000 bond.

Francis is set to appear in court Aug. 7 at Stamford Superior Court.
