Westport Middle School Closes For Week Due To Mold Issues: Report

School officials said the decision was made "in an abundance of caution" after over 50 students were absent from school.

WESTPORT, CT — Coleytown Middle School students will have the day off from school for the rest of the week due to ongoing mold issues at the school, the Norwalk Hour reported. The announcement was made by Westport Superintendent Colleen Palmer in an email to parents Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Norwalk Hour, Palmer said the decision was made in an abundance of caution after over 50 students were absent from school and dozens made various health complaints Tuesday. District officials will further assess the situation during the week to determine that the school can safely reopen Monday.

According to the Westport Public Schools website, a Coleytown Middle School community Q&A session on mold remediation is scheduled to take place Thursday, Sept. 2o from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Bedford Middle School auditorium.
