Westport P&Z Considers Cottage Cluster Developments Text Amendment

Information from Westport Planning and Zoning Department:

WESTPORT, CT — Deputy Planning and Zoning Director Michelle Perillie announced that on October 2, 2023 at 7:00 PM, the Planning and Zoning Commission will be reviewing a text amendment application for Cottage Cluster Developments which creates the opportunity for 100% affordable cottage cluster housing on town-owned land. The targeted beneficiary is 655 Post Road East. All application materials may be viewed on the Town’s website here.

The purpose of this section is to promote sustainable development practices through smaller, more efficient housing and effective use of residential land, increase the diversity of housing choices by allowing for a grouping of smaller, single-family dwellings on one lot, and to provide additional below market rate housing within Westport, located on lots owned by the Town of Westport. The proposed regulations would apply to 63 town-owned properties but the regulations limits the number of developments in town to five.

Michelle Perillie described, “The Planning and Zoning Commission is working to implement the goals of the Town of Westport Affordable Housing Plan which recommends encouraging sustainably developed modular construction kits and prefabricated cottages to build multifamily and small houses quickly and efficient.”

The October 2, 2023 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will be held virtually via Zoom, will be live streamed on the Town’s website at www.westportct.gov, and accessible on Optimum Government Access Channel 79 and Frontier Channel 6020. Comments can be sent prior to the meeting at PandZ@westportct.gov and interested parties may join the meeting virtually or call in to offer testimony during the meeting.
