Westport P&Z Department Promotes New Zoning Official
The Zoning Official is responsible for processing Zoning Permits, Variance Requests, Zoning Complaints, and related zoning issues.
WESTPORT, CT — Planning and Zoning Director Mary Young has announced that the Planning and Zoning Department promoted Michael Tartaglia to serve as a Zoning Official for the Town of Westport.
Mr. Tartaglia graduated with honors from Bloomfield College New Jersey, with his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management. While still in college Mr. Tartaglia founded his own company, Screen Doctors, repairing cell phone devices and tablets and managing the company’s business operations. He subsequently fine-tuned his customer service skills working for Marriott as an Assistant Operations Manager responsible for promoting guest experiences and relations while simultaneously monitoring performance metrics and productivity of the 18-member Front Office Staff.

Mr. Tartaglia joined the Westport Planning and Zoning Department in November 2020, and quickly became responsible for managing the Front Office and preparing department budgets applying both his education and experience. His exposure to municipal land use operations, incentivized him to seek advancement within the department. Now, in less than two years, Mr. Tartaglia has been promoted to the Zoning Official position.
The Zoning Official is responsible for processing Zoning Permits, Variance Requests, Zoning Complaints, and responding daily to zoning questions from residents. Additionally, the Zoning Official is responsible for problem solving, enabling residents to achieve their land use goals within allowable regulatory constraints.

Director Mary Young offered, “Mike is amazing. Westport residents and land use professionals we serve have observed a marked improvement in customer relations within the department since he was hired. I’m glad an opportunity for advancement presented itself as Mike is an asset to the Planning and Zoning Department and we are grateful to have him remain a Team Member!”
