Westport Parks, Beaches And Athletic Facilities To Close Saturday Due To Severe Weather

WESTPORT, CT — Westport parks, beaches, athletic fields and racquet facilities will be closed Saturday, Sept. 26, because of anticipated severe weather, according to the town's Parks and Recreation Department.

The forecast includes excessive rainfall, high winds and the potential for falling trees and branches, the department said.

Golfers should monitor the Longshore Golf Course website and their email for updates because the course could also close.

The department is also urging boaters to monitor weather forecasts and take precautions to secure their vessels ahead of the storm.

Boat owners are responsible for securing their vessels and are advised to use additional lines; remove canvas, sails, Bimini tops and enclosures; remove loose items, valuables, extra fuel tanks and fishing equipment; and charge batteries and make sure bilge pumps are working properly.

Residents are advised to use caution, secure outdoor belongings and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the storm.

The Parks and Recreation Department said it will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates about additional facility closures as necessary.
