Westport PD Participates In 'No Shave November'

This the fifth year in a row the department has participated in the charity effort.

From the Westport Police Department: The month of November is here again and the Westport Police Department is proud to announce that, for the fifth year in a row, many of our officers, along with men across the country, are putting down their razors for an entire month and letting their facial hair grow out in connection with “No Shave November.” The goal of No Shave November is simple; to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose in the course of treatment.

The concept behind it is even simpler; donate the money you would typically spend on shaving and grooming to the cause to help fund education about cancer prevention, to help save lives, and to aid those fighting this difficult battle.

In direct support of No Shave November, Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas has relaxed grooming regulations for the participating officers, allowing the otherwise normally clean shaven group to grow out their beards in exchange for a minimum donation of $50 to the cause. As of this writing, the department has already raised $1,650 toward a stated goal of at least $2,500. Again, 2019 marks the fifth year that Westport officers have participated in this program and to date have raised over $13,000.00 in support of the organization; one which has netted over 3.5 million dollars in total donations worldwide.

This year’s donations will directly support programs with the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. No-Shave November is a registered 501(c)(3) charity organization and all donations are tax-deductible. We at the police department sincerely hope to make this our best fundraising year yet and are therefore asking for the public’s support of a truly great cause. With our goal in mind, we would ask that anyone wishing to learn more and/or to support our team with a donation please visit:
