Westport Plans 4 Days Of Service And Remembrance For 25th Anniversary Of 9/11

WESTPORT, CT — Westport will hold four days of service and remembrance from Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Residents, businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations and community groups are invited to participate in activities intended to remember those who died, recognize first responders, military members and public servants, and encourage community service.

In Connecticut, 161 people with ties to the state were killed in the terrorist attack.

The town has created a page on the Selectman’s Office section of its website with information about volunteer opportunities, donations and other ways to participate.

The observance is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, with a town proclamation recognizing the four days of service and remembrance. A time for the proclamation has not yet been announced.

Residents can participate by volunteering with Westport nonprofit organizations; donating food, supplies or money to local organizations; performing independent acts of kindness or community service; or thanking first responders, veterans, health care professionals, teachers and others who serve the community.

The town has also launched an online tribute wall where residents can share how they are remembering Sept. 11 and honoring those who died or responded through service.

Submissions can include personal reflections, stories of service, tributes to loved ones, messages of gratitude and photos of community service or remembrance activities. Participants may submit entries with their names or anonymously through an online form.

After the four-day observance concludes, the town plans to publish a community summary highlighting volunteer participation, acts of service, charitable giving and remembrance stories.
