Westport Police Holiday Food Drive 'Extremely Successful'

The Westport Police Department recently hosted a Holiday Food Drive to support the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.

WESTPORT, CT – The Westport Police Department, in conjunction with Stop & Shop stores, hosted a Holiday Food Drive on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to support the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.

According to a news release, Westport officers accepted non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations, in front of the Stop & Shop store located at 1790 Post Road East.

"The event, organized by Westport resident Anna Rycenga along with Officers Mark Grasso and Scott Thompson, was extremely successful," Lieutenant Jillian Cabana said in a release. "Officers collected more than 4,000 pounds of food and approximately $1,750 in monetary donations."

The Bridgeport Rescue Mission provides vital services to men, women and children dealing with hunger and homelessness, enabling them to return to the community healed and whole. All food service programs at the Bridgeport Rescue Mission are provided free of charge to anyone who is hungry, regardless of age, gender, national origin, ethnic background, religion or socioeconomic group.

"We would like to thank Anna Rycenga for helping to organize the event, Stop & Shop for hosting us and the officers who volunteered to accept and deliver the donations to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission," Cabana said. "We are grateful for all of the generous donations, which made the Holiday Food Drive so successful."
