Westport Police Warn Of Scam Calls Using Department's Phone Number
"The Westport Police Department does not accept payment for any services, fees etc. over the phone."
Information from the Westport Police Department:
WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department is aware of several scam phone calls placed to local residents this afternoon. The originating phone number was displayed as the non-emergency number for the department, (203) 341-6000, and a person purporting themselves to be from the Westport Police Department advised the residents they were being called on a recorded line and had missed a court subpoena. The citizens recognized these calls as scams and contacted the department. We believe the end goal of these calls was to have the recipient send money or gift card information as payment for a fine or to avoid arrest.
The Westport Police Department does not accept payment for any services, fees etc. over the phone.
