Westport Police Warn Of Scam Texts Involving Fake Traffic Tickets

The fake texts seek payment for nonexistent traffic tickets.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department is warning residents to be on the lookout for scam text messages that seek payment for nonexistent traffic tickets.

In the text, the writer says that a traffic camera recorded a moving violation involving the victim's vehicle, and seeks $145.79 to pay the fine. See the fraudulent text below.

According to Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods, the department does not use traffic cameras, and would "not solicit payment for any violations in this manner."
