Westport Residents Invited To Comment On Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan

Residents can review the draft regional plan and Westport annex, then email comments to WestCOG's deputy director.

Westport residents can review and comment on a draft regional plan aimed at reducing losses from natural disasters. The Western Connecticut Council of Governments, known as WestCOG, is accepting feedback on its 2026–2031 Hazard Mitigation Plan and municipal annexes, according to its project webpage.

The Town of Westport announced that the region's 18 communities worked with WestCOG on the update. The plan outlines actions to reduce property damage and loss of life from floods, severe wind events, winter storms, wildfires, droughts, extreme heat events and earthquakes.

According to WestCOG, hazard mitigation plans are updated every five years and help communities qualify for mitigation grants. The existing plan remains active through December 2026, and the update includes a regional document and separate municipal annexes.
