Westport’s Sophia Sarrazin Makes the Cut for Jr PGA Championship

The 14-year old sensation holds her own in field of international golfers.

Westport’s Sophia Sarrazin will make history again, as she tees off today at 8:50AM in the 44th Girls’ Junior PGA Championship at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, CT.

The 14-year-old Staples High School Girls’ Golf Team MVP secured her spot after two days of golf competing against 144 of the top girls in the world Monday and Tuesday. Sarrazin shot an even par 70 in her first round and 73 in the second round to easily make the cut, which was whittled down to 70 girls.

“This is an amazing experience for me and playing with these amazing golfers is great,” said Sarrazin while waiting to see if she made the cut.

“Overall I had two great rounds but I know I can do better and can’t wait for tomorrow” she added.

And that certainly is the case as Sarrazin shot a 68 last week at Yale during the CT qualifier, and a 65 at AJGA Mahong Valley Hospital Foundation Junior All-Star Tournament. a tournament she won in Ohio last month.

The All-FCIAC, All-State and All-New England golfer in her first year during the high school season set another record becoming the first Staples High School girl golfer to play in the National Championship.
