Westport School Budget Could Jump More than 4 Percent next Year: Report
The 2017-18 budget is far from finalized, but preliminary projections call for an increase.

WESTPORT, CT — Preliminary projections for the 2017-18 school budget call for a possible 4.1 percent increase, reports Westport Now, based on figures from Schools Superintendent Colleen Palmer.
Westport's current schools budget stands at about $112.5 million, so a projected increase could bring next year's budget above $117.1 million. This year's spending allocation topped the previous year's budget by less than 1.3 percent.
Palmer presented the preliminary figure to the Board of Education this week, and stressed that it was only a possibility. Driving much of the possible increase are rising health care costs for district employees.
