Westport School To Celebrate International Walk To School Day

First Selectman James Marpe and Superintendent Dr. Colleen Palmer are scheduled to join in the walk.

WESTPORT, CT – King’s Highway Elementary School in Westport will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 10, 2018.

According to a news release, approximately 300 students from King’s Highway Elementary School will be walking to school along with parents, teachers and staff members. First Selectman James Marpe and Superintendent Dr. Colleen Palmer are scheduled to join in the walk as well.

The event will begin at 8:10 a.m. with kids, parents, teachers and staff walking from Westport PAL snack stand at PJ Romano field (Saugatuck Elementary School parking lot). Walkers will arrive at the school at 8:15 a.m. The event is shine-only and will be canceled due to inclement weather.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
