Westport Seeks Volunteers To Fill Vacancies On Several Boards, Commission & Committees

WESTPORT, CT — Westport is seeking registered voters to serve on the town's appointed boards, commissions and committees, including an immediate need for members of the Flood & Erosion Control Board, First Selectman Kevin Christie announced Thursday.

The Flood & Erosion Control Board currently does not have a quorum, limiting its ability to conduct business and act on matters involving residents, property owners and the community.

Town officials said residents with interests in flood resilience, coastal management, environmental stewardship, engineering, planning or related fields are encouraged to apply.

With few exceptions, the town's appointed boards, commissions and committees are selected by the first selectman. The town is also accepting applications for agencies with current vacancies or upcoming term expirations, including the:

• Architectural Review Board
• Affordable Housing Committee
• Building Maintenance Committee
• Fair Rent Commission
• Historic District Commission
• Parks Advisory Committee
• Parks & Recreation Commission
• Public Site & Building Commission
• Racquets Advisory Committee
• Shellfish Commission
• TEAM Westport
• Tree Board

The town is also seeking a representative to serve on the Aquarion Water Authority Representative Policy Board, which includes representatives from municipalities in Aquarion's service area. The board approves water rates and oversees aspects of the authority's governance.

Town officials said applicants with experience in architecture, construction, engineering, environmental sciences, housing, finance or public policy may be interested in serving, although prior board or committee experience is not required.

"Westport has long benefited from residents who generously volunteer their time and talents in service to the community," Christie said. "Whether you bring professional expertise or simply a desire to get involved, I encourage you to consider serving on one of our boards or commissions. Your voice and perspective can help shape the future of our community."
