Westport State Sen. Ceci Maher Sworn In To Represent 26th District

Maher, a Democrat from Wilton, was sworn in on Wednesday.

The following announcement is from the office of state Sen. Ceci Maher:

WESTPORT, CT — [Wednesday], Ceci Maher (D-Wilton) was sworn in as senator of the 26th state Senate District, which covers Westport, Weston, Wilton, Redding, and parts of Ridgefield, Darien, New Canaan, and Stamford. The newly sworn in senator begins her first term in the General Assembly and will also serve as Senate Chair of the Children Committee and Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee.

"I am eager to get started and thankful to all those that trusted me with the immense responsibility of representing them in Hartford in the state Senate," said Sen. Maher. "I am so grateful for the support of former senator Will Haskell and the efforts of the people who volunteered their valuable time during the campaign to help make today's swearing in a reality, and to those I met along the campaign trail who shared their thoughts, ideas and concerns. I look forward to working alongside all of you and my colleagues in the General Assembly this session. I believe together, we can accomplish great things."

Prior to winning election to the state Senate in November, Sen. Maher successfully directed national and local nonprofits. The senator led the growth of educational opportunity programs at the Horizons National Student Enrichment Program for five years, expanded the reach of Person-to-Person when she was the executive director from serving 15,000 people to serving 25,000 people per year and providing food for more than 2 million meals per year to residents in need in seven of the towns in lower Fairfield County. Sen. Maher also led Sandy Hook Promise as interim executive director, providing programs to prevent gun violence, create safer schools for students and share learnings with families. In an earlier part of her career, Sen. Maher ran a multi-million-dollar retail department, graduated from Columbia University with a master's degree in social work, and worked with children and youth in a psychiatric hospital as a licensed master social worker.
