Westport Students Encouraged To Sign Up For Earth Day Contest

The UNASWCT encourages students to participate in an artistic contest advocating any aspect of environmental awareness.

WESTPORT, CT - From UN Association of SW CT: The UN Committee announces the following:

The Southwestern Connecticut Chapter of the United Nations Association (www.UNASWCT.org) advocates and supports U.N. programs to preserve the global environment. This International Mother Earth Day (April 23, 2019) the UNASWCT encourages student participation with an artistic contest advocating any aspect of environmental awareness in almost any media or creative format.

The contest is open to all students in the Fairfield County area, from elementary to college levels. Entries can address a single topic or broad-based theme in support of environmental challenges and opportunities for change. The breadth of modern media opportunities allows entries to be in any creative format accessible to students, including graphic design (i.e. poster, flyer, bumper sticker, postcard;) short video; or performance (i.e. essay, poem, song.) The only requirement is that each entry address International Mother Earth Day (the official U.N.designation,) and include the logo of the UNASWCT and QR web-link code (both available on the "events" page at www.unaswct.org.)

Part of the U.N. mission is fostering education and community building to address global warming and the myriad effects of climate change such as migration, famine, social upheaval and rising sea levels. Students are invited to creatively promote United Nations sustainable development goals, legal protections for nature, efforts to preserve biodiversity, the findings of the International Panel on Climate Change or other U.N. initiatives related to global warming.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 entries. The deadline is Tuesday April 9 and entries should be submitted via email as JPG, PDF, ppt, doc, MP3/MP4 or filesharing link tounaswct@gmail.com. Entries will be judged by a UNASWCT committee and all participants will receive a Certificate of Appreciation. Top entries and notable runners-up will be published online atwww.unaswct.org
