Westport Superintendent Criticizes Misinformation About Student's Death

Westport Schools Superintendent Elliott Landon criticized the misinformation that has been going around the Westport community regarding the death of a Staples High School student.

Christopher Lanni, 14, passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Dec. 23, according to his obituary. He was a freshman at the high school. He was also a Boy Scout, achieved a black belt in karate and was an avid break dancer. No cause of death was mentioned in the obituary.

Landon said at the first Board of Education meeting of the year that the spreading of misinformation is disrespectful to Christopher and his family, according to Westport Now.

He also requested that the community respect the Lanni family’s privacy and to support each other in a positive way.

Several social media posts suggested Lanni took his own life after bullying, according to Westport Now.
