Westport Superintendent Suggests Bus Monitor Cut
The move would save money, but some elected officials said it's not worth the safety risk.

Superintendent Elliot Landon’s proposed 2016-2017 school budget calls for the removal of school bus monitors except for special education students.
The move would save $125,000, according to Westport Now. Many monitors have retired and it can be difficult to find replacements. It would also bring Westport in line with other school districts throughout the state.
The monitor program was put into place after an 8-year-old girl was run over by a school bus in 1991.
