Westport Teacher Receives Excellence In Science Instruction Award

The Connect Science Teachers Association is honoring elementary school teacher Phaedra Taft.

Ms. Phaedra Taft, Elementary Science Coach at Greens Farms Elementary School and Long Lots Elementary School, is the recipient of the Connect Science Teachers Association award “Excellence in Elementary Science Teaching 2020.”

Ms. Taft has been an exceptional Westport teacher for 12 years. Throughout her time in the District she has been a leader in the development and implementation of science curriculum at the elementary level. In 2016 she became an Elementary Science Coach and has played an instrumental role in leading the District’s adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Thomas Scarice, Superintendent, Anthony Buono, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, Kevin Cazzetta, Principal of Greens Farms Elementary School, Debra Dunn, Principal of Long Lots Elementary School, and Allison Moran, Coordinator of Elementary Curriculum, all share their praise of Ms. Taft for earning this prestigious award. In addition, her fellow teachers have shared countless comments of admiration. “Congratulations! I am so glad you have been recognized for the hard work and passion you put into your teaching. So well deserved.”
