Westport Unveils Online Hub Focused On Affordable Housing Questions
Town officials say the online resource gives residents one place to find affordable housing guidance and background.
WESTPORT, CT — Westport has launched an Affordable Housing Committee Information Hub, a new online resource aimed at helping residents learn about affordable housing in town. First Selectman Kevin Christie announced the site Tuesday, which includes background on the committee’s work, frequently asked questions and guidance tied to local affordable housing efforts.
According to officials, the hub includes information on the committee’s mission, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Ordinance, the town’s Affordable Housing Plan and completed developments that include affordable housing units. The site’s FAQ section addresses questions including "What is Affordable Housing?," "Why does Westport need Affordable Housing?" and "What is 8-30(g)?"
"Affordability is a challenge across Connecticut, and it is one we are seeing more clearly here in Westport for our workforce, seniors, and young families," Christie said in a statement. "Housing is at the center of that challenge. If we want to shape our future, we need to engage early, work from shared facts, and plan thoughtfully. This is a step in that direction, giving residents a clear place to understand the issue and how we can approach it in a way that reflects Westport’s values."

The Affordable Housing Committee was established as part of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Ordinance, which the Representative Town Meeting adopted in July 2023. Under the ordinance, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund supports the development, preservation and acquisition of affordable housing. The committee’s duties include studying the need for affordable housing in Westport, making an inventory of sites in town that may be suitable for affordable housing, tracking those sites and studying funding sources for affordable housing.
Since the committee’s membership was finalized, it has worked with town staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Affordable Housing Subcommittee, according to officials. That work led to the development of informational materials, community guidance and the FAQ section now posted online.
